On September 11, the United Kingdom unveiled a new aid package worth £600 million ($781 million) for Ukraine, during a visit to Kyiv by U.K. Foreign Secretary David Lammy and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

According to the U.K. Foreign Office, this substantial package includes $315 million allocated for 2024-2025. The funds will address immediate humanitarian, energy, and stabilization needs, as well as support for reforms, recovery, and reconstruction efforts in Ukraine.

A key component of the package is £20 million ($26 million) dedicated to bolstering Ukraine’s power grid and energy infrastructure in preparation for winter and anticipated Russian strikes. Additionally, £100 million ($130 million) will be directed towards humanitarian aid, aimed at assisting Ukrainians living on the front lines and those displaced by the conflict.

The aid package also includes $484 million in loan guarantees for World Bank lending. This funding will help enhance economic stability by supporting public services such as schools and hospitals, as well as covering pensions and public sector salaries. This loan guarantee represents the second deployment of the $3 billion package committed by the U.K. at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in London last year.

Furthermore, the U.K. will send “hundreds of additional air defense missiles, tens of thousands of artillery rounds, and more armored vehicles” to Ukraine by the end of the year, according to the Foreign Office.

In a statement, Lammy emphasized the importance of this aid: “Alongside the United States, we are committed to giving Ukraine what it needs to resist Russia’s illegal invasion. Their fight for freedom, liberty, and democracy is also a fight for British security, European security, and global security.”
